04a181 Very early war ruby ambrotype of Union Infantry enlistedman. Great seated image of this fully laden infantryman, wearing M1858 forage cap, white buff over the shoulder strap cartridge box, M1839 small oval US buckle on white buff belt, holding his M1842 conversion .69 musket and sporting a Smith and Wesson #2 Army model tucked in his waist belt! Image is a bit on the silvery side, but very clear composition overall. Probably a New York militiaman, since the jacket has shoulder tabs and he ain't no Rebel! Appears to have either a hankerchief or perhaps a Bible in his front pocket as well. Overall approximately 2 ¼" x 2 ¾". Spine on case has split, easily repaired with fabric tape. $425
