This category consists of handguns (pistols or revolvers). The Civil War led to an era of innovation led by the continued development of the multi-shot revolver popularized by Samuel Colt since the 1830s. The Confederate and Union soldiers purchased a wide array of individual weapons manufactured in numerous locations across the world. From the bulky pepperbox, a weapon with a rotating barrel that was also the cylinder, to the streamlined Smith and Wesson cartridge handguns, both sides had access to awesome firepower on the individual level. The weapons of Samuel Colt were well-known, but in reality no better than those produced by Remington, Manhattan Arms, Starr Arms, or a host of others. Imported items such as the English Kerr revolver and the combination shotgun-pistol LeMat were imported by the South to aid in supplying weapons to the Confederacy.
All weapons offered herein are guaranteed original and as described unless stated otherwise in the descriptions but are NOT WARRANTED SAFE TO SHOOT! Always have a professional gunsmith thoroughly check out an antique weapon before attempting to fire it. We offer an array of primary reference books in the Books section for those who wish to research arms in more detail.
*FFL Required means the specified weapon must be transferred and shipped via a Federally licensed dealer-no exceptions!
