U-7. CONFEDERATE enlistedman’s infantry frock coat, incredibly rare item in beautiful condition! Double breasted with cobalt blue wool trim and piping circa 1861, when cloth was still plentiful. Coats of this pattern are often associated with South Carolina units, though this example has plain pre-War eagle buttons. Believed to be Charleston Light Infantry, as several other examples are known and with the same construction details. Has been "blessed" by Les Jensen, ex-curator, Museum of the Confederacy, as well as other experts in the field. Lining is above average for a Confederate coat, but has minor damage due to poor conservation techniques employed several years ago (portions of inner, unseen cloth removed to repair visible locations). An ultimate rarity, and one of only a few surviving examples in private hands or museums.Sold! for $30.000.00
